Music - MP3s & Lyrics -One sure step
Lyric by Allison Lynn.
Music by Allison Lynn and Gerald Flemming c. 2004
I was born between Alicia and Winston.
Mom was Winnifred. Dad was Jim. We followed Dad through
the one-room schools.
We lost Mom. We gained Lillian.
Dad taught me to leave a place better
Than the way that I found it before.
Now, I hear your voice calling out to me
As I stand on the cold Atlantic shore.
I will serve you, Lord, in my island home, And where-ever
my path will climb.
Guide my troubled feet and I will follow you,
Taking one sure step, One sure step at a time.
I am challenged by the places you bring me,
Distant parishes along the northern shore.
I teach like my father. I preach at the Old Garrison.
I give so much, yet you always ask for more.
The road to serve you is not an easy one
But like footprints deep in the sand
Carry me through the frightening and the difficult.
Hold me safe in the palm of your hand.
I will serve you, Lord, in my island home, And where-ever
my path will climb.
Guide my troubled feet and I will follow you,
Taking one sure step, One sure step at a time.
Thank you, God, for choosing me to serve you.
For Helen. An awesome soul. My wife.
For my daughters. For friends who know I’m only human.
For breathing. Love, and laughter. Joy, and life.
It’s been forty years since I first heard your call,
The silver voice across the dark grey sea.
I have traveled far from Salvage to Toronto.
I pray, Lord, that you are pleased with me.
I will serve you, Lord, in my island home, And where-ever
my path will climb.
Guide my troubled feet and I will follow you,
Taking one sure step, I’m taking one sure step.
Taking one sure step at a time.
